Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign that focuses on drug, alcohol, and violence prevention. This year’s theme is “Your future is key, so stay drug free.” Our school will have a poster slogan contest, wear red ribbons, have special dress days on Monday, October 23 and Friday, October 27, and discuss ways to be drug, alcohol, and bully free. According to the National Family Partnership, “Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don't, yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.” Red Ribbon Week is a good time to talk to your child(ren) about being drug, alcohol, and bully free. Please visit the Red Ribbon Campaign website for additional information.
Learning How To Cope With Stress
Each year more of our students share that they are stressed, including children who are in the primary grades. Our school is hosting a parent education night on Wednesday, November 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the small gym. Licensed therapists and clinicians from the Hume Center in Fremont will be in attendance. We highly recommend that all families attend, since the meeting will focus on how to identify stress in children and families, ways to cope with stressful situations, and strategies for helping children to alleviate stress in their lives. We hope that discussing this important topic and information shared will be a valuable resource for our entire school community.
Celebrating Halloween Together
We will be celebrating Halloween with a parade on Monday, October 31 at 8:15 a.m. and a trick or treat party at 11:00 a.m. We ask that you please remember the importance of dressing your children in modest costumes that are appropriate for school. We are looking forward to a spooky day!
Back by popular demand, our annual St. Bede Crab Feed, hosted by CYO, GAP, and our parish school, will be on Saturday, January 6 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $50.00 using our school order form which will be available soon. This meal includes all-you-can-eat bread, salad, pasta, and crab. There is also a 20 oz. steak option for those interested. In addition, we will have raffle prizes, dessert auction, varieties of beverages, a photo area, and plenty of dancing. We will be serving alcohol at this event, so it will be adults only. Last year, 400 people attended this sold out event, so purchase your tickets today!
Parent-student-teacher conferences are on Thursday, October 19 and Friday, October 20. We will dismiss all students at 12:00 p.m. on October 19, and there is no school for students on October 20.
